At The Woodlands, we require that all of our tenants have renters insurance. This is to make sure that our tenants are safe and covered if anything should go wrong. Accidents do happen, and we only want the best for our tenants!
Three major issues your renters insurance may cover are:
- Theft: If your apartment is broken into and your belongings are stolen, your landlord is actually not responsible unless the break-in was caused by his or her negligence of security. Therefore, having renters insurance will help you recover your belongings in the event of a burglary. Just be sure to list all of your important belongings on your policy!
- Damage: Whether or not you caused it yourself, nothing is worse than unexpected damage to your home except the unexpected cost that comes with it. If you accidentally break a window, and then some of your items get damaged from rain coming through, your landlord is not going to be responsible. However, if you have renters insurance and have listed the items on your policy, you will be covered!
- Guest Injuries: If one of your friends or family members slips and falls or acquires any other injury in your home, you could possibly be held responsible and become liable for the medical bills. Renters insurance is a great way to make sure that any guest accidents and injuries are covered, and won’t cost you money out of your own pocket.
Make sure you ask questions – your insurance rep will explain anything that you do not understand, and will help you know which incidents and items are covered, and which are not.
