When searching for an apartment, whether it is your first apartment of your millionth apartment, there are always items that you know are deal breakers for you. Below are a few tips on how to recognize what your requirements may be when searching for the apartment of your dreams!
Look at Your Choices: There are several choices now a days to access information regarding apartment complexes. Whether you access information in a newspaper, an online search or word of mouth you always want to ensure you review all your choices before making a decision. Write down a list of things that you want in an apartment - size of the apartment, location of complex, amenities that are included, etc. Narrowing down exactly what you do and do not need with your apartment rental will help with choosing which apartment complexes you may or may not be interested in.
Take Down Notes: Organize your hunt by notating the address, contact person and their information, details about the apartment, you initial assessment, thoughts and any relevant notes that you might have. Keep your notes in one place, perhaps a binder or an accordion envelope so that you can review all your files before making a decision. This will be your home for at least the next year, so the notes will help you deliberate carefully so that you don't regret your choice later on.
Be Inquisitive: Once you have set up your showing of the property and apartment with the Property Manager, ensure you write down the list of questions along with your do's & dont's checklist. Never hesitate to ask any question you may have that was not answered during the tour. Be attentive during the showing - Is the apartment/grounds up to your standards? Do not settle when it comes to living arrangements. If you know previous tenants, ask them about their stay. Ask about the bills- how much the average water and power consumption is? Is it a safe neighborhood? Are there break-ins? Know everything about the place before signing the lease agreement because it will be your home for at least the next year.
We hope these 3 items will help you in your search for finding the apartment of your dreams!
